Lots of pictures

The graduating class of OB/GYN residents at Tripler! It's been a LOOOOONG four years, but don't we look so happy to be counting down our last days?
We had a great weekend! I didn't have to work the whole weekend, and we got to spend lots of time playing, and hanging out. We also spent lots of time shopping for the giant birthday bash! I am EXCITED about this week, because my mom arrives in 2 days! it is going to be awesome to have her here. Although she spent every single day for 2 months last summer watching nova while we were stranded in michigan, she hasn't gotten to spend a whole lot of time with the girls since then, so we are super super excited to have her in Hawaii for almost 2 weeks.
Anyway, back to the pictures.
Dad teaching his girl how to throw a perfect spiral - Left Handed if you will notice (JBug is clearly right handed, but cris is the sole lefty of our family, and hoping to convert one of his right handed girls. He works hard on getting them to do things left handed. I tell him he is gonna mess with their heads, but he is persistent)

About 100 times a day we hear "one more". this is the new favorite thing for both Juneau and Nova to say. EVERYTHING is "one more", which they say enthusiastically while holding up 1 finger.
Dr. Nova, professional athlete, showing off her multiple skills.
I think Nova is starting look more like her Dada

This is the 2nd season for our pineapple garden.

Juneau doesn't get in trouble very often, but when she does she knows to go get her "time-out" mat and put it in the corner. The whole thing is unbelievably comical, especially when she puts her little face right in the corner.

It gets cold here in the early morning, so the girls usually wear a cute little sweater when we are going out and about

It is always so sad when i realize that Juneau doesn't look like a baby anymore, but more like a little girl.

Toothbrushers

this photo post is dedicated to cousins Alex and Lyndsey who just got back from a missions trip to Guatemala where they (among other things!) helped teach about Oral Hygeine. Juneau and Nova are practicing so they can go along one day.

Nova's First Birthday Celebration!

The invitation for Nova's first birthday! Of course, i had to black out the pertinent info to keep away the crazies. Well, at least to keep away the crazies that we didn't invite. I'm sure there will still be plenty of crazies present.

the pictures

Here we are at the Shofield "springfest" It was typical hawaii - 10 times too many people at a small event. Sorry bugjuice, but we were not going to wait 1.5 hours in line to jump in the bouncey house.
Our pretty Sally and the girls. These babies love their "Saz" and i am not looking forward to the first few weeks without her

Did you notice anything different about Nova? Look really close. Can you see those tiny little strands of hair i pulled together on top of her head? It's a real ponytail - i promise!

Another first for nova - sitting in her forward facing seat! We turned it around a couple of weeks early, and she LOVES her new position!

Betsy and the babies. Both of the girls adore Betsy. Juneau is particularly attached to her, and will wander around the house at all hours calling out "Bets? Bets?"

back to the land of the living

I have LOTS of pictures to post from various events over the week. They are cute, and i can't wait to post them, but i am at work, so i can't do it until later. Residency is so painful for many, many reasons. 1 of those reasons is that i have approximately somewhere between 1.5 and 3 hours between getting home from work and going to bed. I hate having to choose between the things i really really really want to do in that time period. Of course, the #1 activity of the evening is playing with the babies, but they usuall go to bed around 730, so that still gives a little time before we go to bed (usually around 9 since we have to get up at 11 p.m. to feed nova, 2 a.m. to feed nova, 4 a.m. to soothe a screaming juneau, and then 430 a.m. to get ready for work....and that is on a good night!)
List of things i really like to do:
1. update the blog
2. Play with photoshop and the "new camera" pictures
3. P90x (this is the awesome new workout program i am doing. more on that later, but it takes 1.5 hours a day....TIME SUCKER)
4. play Guitar Hero

this is just an abbreviated list. It does not include any of the items that i really, really need to do. Those are mostly housework, and i don't even want to think how long that list is, so i wont put it here.

whew, i can tell this is going to be a long post. sorry about that, i am feeling a little wordy today.

anyway, i am back to working a daytime shift. Good for many reasons, but i will definately miss the low-stress environment that comes from working in the middle of the night. The drama is so mild compared to working in the daytime.

You may have noticed i redesigned the look of the blog. I like it pretty well, it is a little brighter, and more spring-timey; however, i am devasted by the permanent loss of the "timeline" that used to live on the left side of the screen. My devastation is a little bit out of proportion. I know not too many people cared about the date of our "second fingerprinting" or "first homestudy visit", but each and every one of those dates meant so much to us while we were waiting for Juneau to come home. Each one was a little tiny accomplishment in a mass of dissapointments (but ultimately ending in our amazing little bug). anyway, goodbye to the timeline.

And as a final note for today, i had my first PT test after delivering Nova today. This is one of the painful things about being in the military - every 6 months you have to get out of bed at 0400, go down to the track, and run 2 miles, do 2 minutes of pushup and 2 minutes of situps. Fortunately, the requirements aren't too terribly stringent, but there is always that little concern that maybe some Sergeant won't think your pushups are pristine, and you will fail, and that would really be awful. I was a little nervous about the PT test, since i did a "practice" test last month, and my situps were lacking quite a bit. So, while i was on nightfloat i impulsively purchased P90X from the infomercial (i have a knack for impulsive purchases), and we started the workup with the nightfloat team. It is spectacular, and it really really works. I more than doubled my situps in the last month, and i feel much more in shape. I really want to continue it for the full 12 weeks (this is week 6), but now that i am not on the relaxed nightfloat rotation, i can't squeeze it in while i am actually at work, so that means dedicating 90 minutes to working out at home every day, which in all honesty, just is not gonna happen. So i am torn about my P90X workout because i do love it, but i'm not sure if i love enough to dedicate my entire evening.

so, that's about all the rambling i have for now. I will try to put up some super cute pics of some super cute babies tonight or tomorrow.

Oh, i keep forgetting to mention it on the blog. Nova is walking walking walking all over the place. She took her first couple of steps just before she turned 10 months, but i didn't really count it because they were ridiculously wobbly and lunge-y. About 3 weeks ago she decided she wanted to be a full-time walker, and now she is all over the place. It is soooooo cute. Also, her breath holding has been a little better since the whole seizure incident. She has held several times, and passed out a couple, but zero seizure activity. She has a Dr.'s appt today, so we will see if they have any additional advice/info for us.

ok, that's all for now.

Nova's One Year Photo Session

Nova just turned 11 months old, but in preparation for her giant birthday bash "Cirque Du Nova", i wanted to get her 1 year photos made. Our photographer did such a fantastic job entertaining the girls, and came prepared with all of their favorite things...bubbles, balloons, stuffed animals, and even giant lollipops! The girls really had a fantastic morning. Here is a sneak peak from Jacquie Ryan Photographic of their adorable pictures.

All about the Big Island

Our trip to the Big Island was awesome. Yes, it was frigid (i consider 57 degrees frigid, spoiled i know). And yes, it did rain the whole weekend. And yes, the majority of Volcanoes National Park was closed to the public due to strong sulfur fumes. But in spite of those minor issues we had a fantastic time. Juneau has recently become obsessed with airplanes, and so she was of course thrilled with our little airplane ride. Nova tolerated the plane, but wasn't too enthusiastic about it. Kilauea Caldron

Nova's new favorite hobby - riding in her backpack!

We stayed at Kilauea Military Camp, which is inside the boundaries of Volcanoes National Park. The military camp is a quaint little place, that we actually really love. They have older but nice cabins. Our cabin had a big jacuzzi tub that the girls loved! It's a bit chilly up in the park, so we had to wear some of our future Colorado gear. We also got to use the fireplace, which was really fun.

There were 2 big things we've wanted to do since our first trip to the big island. One was to see surface flow lava up close and personal. The other was to drive to the top of Mauna Kea. Mauna Kea's big claim to fame is being THE WORLD'S TALLEST MOUNTAIN. The sneaky part is that the majority of the mountain is below sea level, so it doesn't really count. Of the 33,476 feet it claims, only about 14,00 feet of that are actually above sea level. Even so, we wanted to get to the top of the mountain. We read multiple multiple warnings about not taking our 2 wheel drive rental car up the dirt road, and we were almost deterred by the warnings about taking children under 16, but decided to just see how far we could get without either destroying the car, or having a baby meltdown. And, we were thrilled that we made it too the top! Juneau's lips got a little blue once we were at the top, and she was acting a little crazy/weird, so we didn't stay long, but we did enjoy the beautiful view and get to see a bunch of snow!

We ran around Hilo a little bit. Got to see a couple of great waterfalls (rainbow falls and Pe'e Pe'e falls - unfortunately it's not actually pronounced Pee-Pee falls, that would be just too funny). By sunday we were all pretty wiped out, and just hung out around the cabin. Then back on the airplane for the quick ride back over to honolulu.
Can't get enough of their backpacks!
